One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is shooting the details. Typically when I arrive to the bride’s getting ready location there are always lots of people buzzing around and there is nervous anticipation in the air. Starting the wedding day by photographing all the special items of the day gives me the opportunity to warm up and allows the bride to relax by not feeling like she has to be ready to be photographed as soon as I arrive. Once I have the rings, jewelry, invitation, and other items I find a spot with good natural light and immediately take out my Canon 100mm 2.8L.
I love this lens! It’s my go-to lens for this portion of the day and I just love starting the day with it. The Canon 100mm 2.8L is probably the most underrated lens we own but it’s a must-have for any wedding photographer. While the lens is good for capturing portraits, too, my favorite way to use it is to get in really tight and capture close-up shots of all the details of the day.
