I first met Kate when we photographed her sister Sue’s wedding last summer. Kate was actually instrumental in finding us when she was helping her sister look for a wedding photographer so we were excited to get to know her throughout the day. She was one of the most caring maids of honor we’ve ever had the privilege of working with! She tended to every one of her sister’s needs throughout the day with a big smile on her face. Little did I know then that less than a year later, I’d be blogging her engagement session!
Kate and Gabe have been enjoying their engagement since February and are now planning a spring wedding ceremony at the beautiful St. Catharine’s in Spring Lake. Originally, we weren’t available on their wedding date but we’re so thankful that Kate and Gabe were able to change their wedding date so that we could capture it for them. It was such a huge honor and we’re so incredibly thankful to get to work with them. We’re also so happy to return to St. Catharine’s because it’s one of our very favorite churches! And of course we’re excited for their oceanside reception at The Channel Club. The views there are so gorgeous!
For their engagement session, I met Kate and Gabe near their home in North Jersey. We started out in a North Bergen park, continued onto West New York, and finished the session with NYC cityscapes. It was a perfect mix of greenery and urban scenes! Here is how my time with them unfolded – enjoy!!

“I knew he was the one from the first time I laid my eyes on him. One cold winter day my sister, cousin and I were staying at my sister’s apartment in Morristown. While discussing all of the fun options of what to do that night we eventually decided explore the Snow White blanket covered grounds of Morristown and check out Dublin Pub. Before we headed over my cousin decided to call up her friends to come out and meet us at the pub. While sipping on an angry orchid, I remember seeing two of her friends come in and my heart stopped . As he began to speak, i was immediately taken back, his humor reminded me of my celebrity crush, Will Ferrell. Reserved yet hilarious, the best type. Something told me that night he was the one but I didn’t act upon it until my 26th birthday, a year later. Still to this day Gabe was the best birthday gift I ever received.”

“It was an oddly warm day in February, 75 degrees. Gabe insisted we go down the shore to a restaurant in Belmar for his Birthday dinner at 4pm. Seemed super weird that he wanted to celebrate his birthday that weekend, the following, AND have dinner at 4pm but I figured hey he’s an only child, so typical. While getting ready in are apartment I remember him yelling,” hurry we are going to be LATE, ” I laughed to myself, it was only 2:30pm, the only people we would be fighting off would be the senior citizens coming in for early bird special. As we start to drive down to the shore I notice something was off but decide to ignore all the red flags. Finally, he parks, but not in Belmar, in Spring Lake. He suggests going for a walk on the boardwalk. I hesitate, “just let me bring my coat, just incase.” He immediately responds, ” UH no no don’t bring that, it’s so warm out .” While walking the boardwalk, wind blowing through my hair, dress flowing, except the opposite of the movies, dress blowing in all the wrong directions, hair suffocating me like cousin-it. I suddenly just stopped. I noticed him holding my hand extra tight. As we get closer to the pavilion I see a violinist, our eyes meet and she starts to play my favorite song ” I can’t take my eyes off of you “- Frankie Vallii He drops to one knee, my jaw drops, I say yes, and all the people on the boardwalk cheer. With tears of happiness, I say, “ah let me call my grandma she has to be the first one to know. ” Instantly, my phone dies, Gabe suggest us getting some food and enjoying the moment, before sharing the big news, I agree. He eventually finds a neat pizza spot and grabs my hand to lead me in. “SURPRISE” As I go in I see my grandma there to first greet me, and right behind her I see my whole extended family beaming with happiness for us. This will forever be the best day of my life.”
