I am often asked what I bring to a newborn session so today I figured I would tell you and even show you a bit of my favorite newborn set-up. But before I start, a big thank you to my friends Heather and Jay for taking these photos of me while I worked!
The first thing I do when I arrive at a client’s home is look for the room with the most natural light. Sometimes the best light is in a room with a lot of furniture so we have to move things around but it is well worth the effort. During this particular session I knew the home well so I already knew I’d be setting up next to the kitchen in front of two big French doors. Once I pick the spot with the best light, I set up my blanket backdrops in layers so that I can easily change out the blankets when it’s time for a new look. Under the blankets is a big bean bag and not too far is my little heater, which I bring along to keep the baby extra warm.
There you go, folks! I hope you enjoyed this peek into my favorite set-up for newborn shoots. As you can see, this set-up allows me to pose the baby in the natural positions that you see on our website. The babies are always comfortable on the soft blankets and, most importantly, they are safe. To learn more about my in-home newborn sessions please click here.
