Shelley and Roberto found me on Instagram, and I’m so glad they did because they have been such a pleasure to work with! I met them for the first time last year during my mini-sessions at Branch Brook Park. They were so joyful and warmed up to the camera right away. A couple happily in love and the the prettiest and fluffiest cherry blossoms as a backdrop made for a perfect match. It was so fun capturing them during their Branch Brook Park engagement session!
Shelley and Roberto met on Bumble while living in Washington, DC. Shelley was working as an ICU RN at GW Hospital and Roberto was working for the government. Funny enough, their hometowns happened to be less than an hour away from each other in NJ. I love their connection to DC since I went to college there – coincidentally at GW, also!
I’m so looking forward to Shelley and Roberto’s wedding in March! They’ll be tying the knot at Renault Winery and I already know it will be beautiful. Check out some of my favorite images from their engagement session below:

What do you remember about your first date?
I was nervous for the (essentially) blind date so I had a glass of wine with my roommate before leaving to meet Rob at dinner. Subsequently, I was 15min late to the restaurant and Rob admitted later on that he almost left! Thank goodness for patience. After dinner at Founding Farmers, we went to trivia night and then met up with friends for a night out on the town.
When did you know he/she was the one?
I knew Rob was the one after our first Valentines day together. We had been together for almost a year and he spent a lot of time and effort picking out an array of fancy chocoloates from Bluprint Chocolatiers. I specifically remember sitting on his bed, trialing all the chocolates together and him explaining his stressful chocolatier experience because “they all sounded good.”
Rob knew I was the one when we pregamed my 27th birthday party by going to the local icecream shop for sundaes before having icecream cake with my family. If you know us, were always down for ice cream and then some!
Tell us about the proposal.
He proposed at Forsyth Park in Savannah, GA. He was in training down there and I flew in to spend the weekend with him. His sister and her fiance were in town as well and in on the secret. As we were walking down the side walk to the famous Forsyth fountain, “Somebody to love” by Queen was playing in the background. He dropped to one knee in front of the fountain and pulled the ring box from his skinny jeans and of course I said “YES!” Afterwards we went to brunch, popped some bubbly, had slushes from Wet Willies and finished the night at Savannah Smiles, a dueling piano bar. Overall, it was the most amazing day!
Tell us about the ring!
I’m obsessed with all aspects of my ring! Rob let me pick it out so I was super happy with it! He took me to a jeweler in Summit, NJ that his mom used for her rings. I have a cushion cut diamond sitting high on a diamond wrapped band. Its beautiful!
Tell us one thing you love about each other.
I love his energy and enthusiasm for life. He loves that I’m easygoing and always down for a spontaneous adventure.
Tell us about your wedding day vision and style.
Rustic chic in the Vinyard Ballroom at Renault Winery. We love the antique/rustic style with simple touches :)
