Last month I had the pleasure of meeting up with Jessica and Nicholas for their engagement session! It was a sweet and cozy in-home holiday engagement session and the perfect last engagement session of the year for me! December really flew by for me with wrapping up my wedding season and getting ready for the holidays with a toddler so I really enjoyed getting into the holiday spirit during this shoot. I may have decorated our own home a little more when I got home, ha!
Jess and Nick love Christmas so they went all out with the holiday theme in their new home and it turned out so nice. They warmed up to the camera right away and I truly enjoyed getting to know them. I know they’re going to be a blast to work with on their wedding day later this year at Park Chateau Estate. When I asked Jess and Nick to describe the wedding they’re planning, they said, “classy – but with a shameless amount of food, dancing, laughter and did we mention food?” Ha! I’m already looking forward to their cocktail hour =) Their wedding will take place in August – such a special month for them after they met, got engaged, and are now getting married in August, too. Get to know them below as you scroll through some of my favorite images from our time together!
Cozy In-Home Holiday Engagement Session
What they remember from their first date
“Everything! Nick brought me flowers and had my favorite drink ready at the table – a martini – and favorite appetizer – a cheese plate – waiting for me when I arrived. We went to another restaurant for dinner, then walked along the water in Hoboken before Nick walked me home and met my dog Bailey who gave her seal of approval with very many wet kisses.”
When they knew they had found the one
“We took a spontaneous trip to the beach – we ate at the marina and had a bottle of wine on the sand. We loved talking and spending time with each other so much that we didn’t want to leave – we didn’t even mind when it started to rain.”
The Proposal
“Nick took me to one of his favorite vacation spots, Kauai, and proposed on the beach at sunset early into the trip. He booked a day at the spa for me so I would be hidden away while he bought champagne and coordinated with someone to take pictures and someone else to set up a sweet post-proposal picnic on the beach. It was perfect – and of course my mom was waiting up at home for me to call her and share the news. Nick had been working with my mom to find the perfect diamond and setting for weeks.”
All about the ring
“Nick worked with a family friend to pick out the diamond and setting, and also brought my mom along to help. My favorite part about the ring is the way it sparkles, I can’t stop staring. ”
One thing they love about each other
“Nick loves Jess’ mind. She’s the smartest person he’s ever met. He also loves how much her family means to her.
Jess loves how caring and patient Nick is. He always makes me feel supported and loved. He is also incredibly friendly and inspires me to be kind.”
How they chose the location for their engagement session
“We moved into our first house together about a year ago and have spent the last year making it our home. It’s the place that means the most to us, and where we are a family with our dogs – who got to join us in their Christmas best for some photos! It’s the place our love and our relationship grew stronger – especially spending almost every day together working from home. We couldn’t think of a better place to showcase our love and future together, except perhaps to do so at Christmastime. It’s our favorite time of year, Jess even caved and didn’t make Nick wait until after Thanksgiving to start decorating.”
Thank you, Jess and Nick, for allowing me to capture you in your new home! And shout-out to Jess’s brother who moved a lot of furniture on the morning of the session to put the final touches on the location! Hope you all enjoy this recap and Happy New Year!
