These photos take me back to a moment in time when I truly felt like I was on foreign land, as far away from anything familiar to me as I could possibly get. The French call it dépaysement. It’s the type of feeling you often get when you’re in a land that is completely new to you, surrounded by people with customs, traditions, sights, and smells that are unfamiliar. This feeling of dépaysement is something that Jay and I seek out in our travels, whether we find ourselves discovering new places in the U.S. or roaming exotic, faraway destinations. The following two photos were taken in a southeastern Moroccan village called Merzouga. This was my first trip to Africa and setting foot in the Sahara Desert was pretty amazing. The photos were taken just minutes before a desert camel ride led by the nomadic Berbers, the highlight of the trip!
