Grace and Anthony both attended Manhattan College and they met there during their freshman year. Neither of them can really recall their very first time meeting, but they tend to agree it was mostly likely at Liffy’s II – a very classy local dive bar. Their first date reminds me of my husband Jay’s and mine because it was actually a double date! The similarities don’t end there either because their double date was with Anthony’s best friend and Jay’s and mine was with Jay’s best friend. Such a fun little coincidence! When I asked Anthony what he remembered about their first date, later dubbed the “approval dinner”, he said he remembered that Grace had ordered lasagna, her favorite. I thought this little detail was the perfect reminder of how wonderful it is to have someone out there in this world who knows every single detail about you. Someone who knows what you’re thinking, what you’ll like, and how you’ll want to do approach any situation. Someone who will be there for you for the rest of your life. It’s a beautiful thing, this thing we call love, isn’t it?
Today I’m excited to share a peek into Grace and Anthony’s love story and engagement photos. These two lovebirds chose Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan. The first thing I did when they asked me if I’d go up to the Hudson Heights area of Manhattan was, of course, Google it. And when I saw how beautiful this park was, I was so excited! I love, love shooting in new places and Fort Tryon Park had it all: beautiful paths, stone walls covered in ivy, romantic lamp posts, and gorgeous greenery. On the day of Grace and Anthony’s engagement session we lucked out with beautiful sunshine and an absolutely perfect 72 degrees. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day! I had such a good time discovering the park with these two, and getting to know them at the same time, too!
During the first part of the session, I discovered that Grace and Anthony had met while they were students at Manhattan College. Since we were a hop and a skip away from their alma mater, I asked them if they’d want to go finish the session on their campus and of course they liked the idea! This wasn’t in the plans but I’m so glad we ended at this oh so special place because it was such a perfect opportunity for Grace and Anthony to be photographed where it all began. Three cheers for spontaneous couples =) Enjoy viewing this engagement session and get excited for Grace and Anthony’s wedding at Shadowbrook this summer!

The proposal
From Grace: “Our birthdays fall only a few days apart in April – so Anthony had me plan a birthday brunch in New York City for all our friends. That morning, as we finally made it into the city Anthony said we needed to head over to Bryant Park where we were supposedly meeting his friend. (A little backstory, Bryant Park was also where Anthony had asked me officially be his girlfriend six years earlier.) We got to the park and he said his friend wasn’t there yet, so we sat down to wait in the same area where he had asked me out. At this point I was getting suspicious. We began reminiscing and he said he had another to question to ask me here – this time it was if I would be his wife! Of course my answer was yes, and we rushed to meet our friends and family at our birthday brunch that turned into a surprise engagement party!”
One thing they love about each other:
Grace: “Celebrating with all of our friends and family! Can’t wait to dance the night away!”
Anthony: “A glass of whiskey and a cigar.”
