There are so many things I love about these NYC Engagement Photos, the most important one being that I finally got to meet Jamie and Alex in person! We had only met via Skype so it was a treat to finally get to chat in person, hear how wedding planning is going, and even get to know their neighborhood a bit. We started our session out at Madison Square Park where we hit a few favorite spots, including the very bench where Alex proposed (!) and then headed to Gramercy Park. Like any NYC day, it was crowded but we managed to capture the perfect mix of Jamie and Alex in typical city scenes as well as images where it’s just them, in the hustle and bustle of what is NYC. Just these two lucky people who found each other thanks to a mutual friend and who are now planning what is going to be a beautiful wedding for next spring! Jamie and Alex, thank you for inviting me up to capture this time for you in some of your favorite NYC spots! We can’t wait for your May Windows on the Water at Frogbridge wedding!
How they met:
Jamie – A mutual friend invited us both out while living in NYC.
Alex – We met through a mutual friend who invited us separately to meet him at the bar. He introduced us and we immediately kicked it off!
Their first date:
Jamie – Alex took me bowling and then to dinner. He still jokes about how expensive bowling in NYC is.
Alex – That Jamie was an incredibly picky eater!
When they knew they had found the one:
Jamie – I knew that he was going to be someone special from the moment we met. Soon after we started dating, we spent an entire night awake listening to music. We had so many favorites in common and it was amazing how the songs brought us back to different times and places, but also connected us – that is when I started falling for him.
Alex – One evening a month or two after we met, we were walking down 3rd Avenue on the Upper East Side looking for a store that was open to replace my lost iPhone. We walked for a while but I didn’t mind because we were having such a great conversation. It was like everything I was thinking and feeling she was saying. Something went off inside me and even though I might not have known what it was at the time, I could tell there was something different about her and something very special between us.
The proposal:
Jamie – It was the first beautiful, sunny day after weeks of rain. We went for a run along the river (very unusual for us) and then got lunch at an outdoor market near our apartment. Alex brought along my favorite candy for dessert, Reese’s, but I refused, saying I wanted ice cream. He finally got me to open the candy while we were sitting on a bench in the park nearby. Inside was a note saying “Will you marry me?” and he had carved out one of the peanut butter cups for the ring (it wasn’t in the chocolate!).
Alex – Reese’s + Ring = Marriage (Jamie likely covered this fine)
One thing they love about each other:
Jamie – I love how Alex can make me laugh even when I want to be angry or upset.
Alex – I love how we are perfect complements for each other in every way.
Besides being married, the one thing they’re looking forward to on their wedding day:
Jamie – Being surrounded by all our family and friends.
Alex – Having all of our family and friends together under one roof (tent) to celebrate with us!
