As they say, everything happens for a reason! A few weeks ago I was disappointed when Christina and Don’s engagement session had to be cancelled due to bad weather but luckily, our second shot at it worked out perfectly with lots of sun and blue skies. Not only were we fortunate with the weather, but I got to shoot with Jay, too! He generally doesn’t get to do engagement sessions with me but he had some time on his hands so he came along for the fun. Luck was definitely on my side that day! We had such a great time getting to know Christina and Don and we loved hearing the details of their wedding, which is planned for May 24, 2014. For their engagement session we headed over to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk in Point Pleasant and we quickly discovered that it is an amazing location for an engagement session. We loved celebrating their engagement with cotton candy, skee ball, basketball throws, and most of all: the Wave Swinger! Christina and Don, we can’t wait to capture your wedding day. Enjoy this sneak preview of our favorite images from the session!
How they met
You could say it was Fate. We were born the same day, month, and year on opposite sides of the world! Don was born in Korea, and Christina was born in New York. We both grew up in New Jersey and attended Cornell University. However, we did not meet until May 2009 in NYC. Christina’s co-worker, who was also from Cornell and Don’s best friend, invited her to lunch with them. Don had recently moved to New York from San Diego for work. It turned out we lived only a few blocks from each other in the West Village. We have fate and our friend to thank for bringing us together.
When they knew
Christina: Don and I were friends first. I traveled a lot that first year from Europe to Asia, but I knew he was the one when even in the most exciting and exotic places, I missed him. I couldn’t wait to go home and see him again. Don: I knew right away!
The proposal
Don proposed on our birthday, December 21st last year. That day is special because it is also the Winter Solstice and was supposed to be the Mayan Apocalypse. We were on a romantic cruise of the Caribbean because we love beaches and good food. We were exchanging birthday presents, and Don told me to close my eyes. When I opened them he was holding out the ring. It was a complete surprise. I asked, “Is that real?” and cried a little. Of course, I said, “Yes!” and luckily, there was no apocalypse, so here we are today planning the wedding.
What they love about each other
Christina: His ability to cheer me up with goofiness on a bad day.
Don: Her thoughtfulness in everything she does and patience with me.
What they’re looking forward to on their wedding day (besides getting married!)
Both: The seafood bar during cocktail hour!
Christina: Seeing Don’s smile when I walk down the aisle.
Don: Completing the church ceremony, signaling the completion of one part of our lives and moving forward to the next chapter!
I loved everything about this Point Pleasant Boardwalk Engagement Session, what a great place for a shoot, even on a crowded Memorial Day Weekend! Christina and Don, congratulations on your engagement and thank you for a wonderful start to the summer!
