One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is when I walk into the reception room and see how our couple’s vision of the day has come together. From the seating cards to the centerpieces to the linens, the reception details always bring together the color scheme and style of the wedding day. Today I thought I’d talk about why it’s important to us to shoot your untouched reception details and what you can do to make sure we have the time to capture them for you.
The Reasons Why
- Choosing your wedding venue was probably the first thing you did once you began wedding planning. You most likely visited venue after venue after venue before you found the PERFECT venue for your wedding. You’ll want to remember it!
- You spent months, maybe even over a year, dreaming up your reception room. You probably spent a lot of timing pinning images of details that would make your reception room fit your wedding theme or style, and you also likely spent a lot of money to turn all your projects into a reality. These details most definitely deserve to be captured!
- Oddly enough, a lot of our couples don’t get to see the reception room untouched. By the time you enter the reception room, your guests have already taken their seats. All the details you worked so hard at during the months leading up to your wedding are enjoyed by the guests, and you want to make sure you are able to enjoy them, too.
- Some of the most special people in your lives won’t be able to attend your reception but they’ll be able to feel like they were there when they view your photos and wedding video of your untouched reception details.
- You’ll want to tell the complete story of your wedding day in your wedding album. Remember that your wedding album will be passed on to future generations, so it should include photos of every part of the day.
- If you want to have your wedding published, photos of untouched reception details are imperative. Editors want to publish images that highlight unique details that will inspire other brides, and the reception details do just that.

How to Get Photos of Your Untouched Reception Details
- If you are planning a church ceremony: Be sure to leave enough time between your ceremony and reception so that we can arrive to the venue at the start of cocktail hour. You’ll be able to enjoy your entire cocktail hour while Jay and I capture your untouched reception details.
- If you are planning a venue ceremony: Plan to do a First Look so that we can get all your formal portraits done before the ceremony. This will allow you to enjoy your entire cocktail hour while Jay and I capture your untouched reception details right after the ceremony.
And there you have it! I hope this post is useful to you and gives you insight into the why and the how of photos of untouched reception details! And because we love pretty details, here is some reception inspiration for your pinning pleasure!
