Amy and Nick live in NYC and met by happenstance at a mutual friend’s apartment who was having a party. They were engaged just this past March just before the pandemic shut everything down, booked their wedding while in quarantine, and had their West Village engagement photos done this summer! I just love that COVID-19 hasn’t slowed them down one bit and that they have been able to proceed with enjoying their engagement and making their wedding plans.
For their engagement session, Amy and Nick met up with our associate photographer, Marianne, in the West Village. I’m so glad Amy and Nick’s schedules allowed for an early morning weekday session because they had all their favorite spots all to themselves! Plus they had the prettiest morning light, which is always such a treat.
Amy and Nick will be getting married next year at Indian Trail Club so they are planning a lakefront romantic summer evening. They’ll be incorporating mostly soft and romantic blush, whites, and dark greens – I can’t wait to see it all come together, especially after seeing their engagement photos! I love how this session turned out – Amy and Nick did so well coordinating outfits and Amy looked so beautiful – can you believe she did her own makeup and hair?! I’m so excited to see what she looks like as a bride! Enjoy checking out just a few of my favorite images from their West Village engagement session.
West Village Engagement Photos
Their first date
“Our first date was in the middle of summer, and we went to an Italian spot near my apartment at the time in Murray Hill. Nick choose a restaurant that specialized in gluten free options (which I had mentioned off-hand when we met that I was GF), and that was the first time I saw how thoughtful he is! We had great conversation at dinner, that we decided to stop at a bar on the way home to chat a little more. It was a lot of fun!”
“I always knew Nick would be an important person in my life, but I think I really knew he was the one when we started living together and the best part of my day was coming home to see him.”
All about the ring
“The ring is so pretty! One of my favorite parts is that it’s mixed metals (platinum prongs, gold band), since that matches my style. Also, I love the pave band, it’s incredibly sparkly haha.”
One thing they love about each other
Nick: “I love how empathetic Amy is, not just towards me but towards others as well. She also takes the important things in life seriously, but doesn’t sweat the smaller things.”
Amy: “I love how thoughtful Nick is and he never ceases to make me laugh, I feel as though we have our own language sometimes.”
The proposal
“Nick proposed on my birthday at one of our favorite spots, the beach in Florida. My family members were there (several were a surprise), and his parents flew down as well (also a surprise!). This happened the week before Covid shut everything down so we feel so lucky in hindsight it all worked out!”
“When Nick and I were dating, one of our favorite spots in the city to go on dates and wander through was the West Village. We’ve always thought it was one of the most romantic and beautiful parts of NYC. Also, we are both from NJ so that is where our wedding will be, but we met/live in NYC so wanted that to be part of our wedding in some capacity as well.
When Marianne suggested we also stop by the waterfront, we were so excited because that is one of our favorite places to walk on a daily basis. So it all felt very authentic to our relationship.”
Their wedding style
“We’re both pretty minimal when it comes to our styles, but we definitely want the wedding to feel warm, cozy, and most importantly, FUN!”
