When Olivia and Chris reached out about having me capture their engagement session in Cape May I knew it would be unique – because it was for February! It’s not every day that a couple wants to do a beach engagement session in the winter, but I loved their vision!! Olivia described it as a “windy beach shoot” and it was exactly that! It was actually 32 degrees on the day of the session – and verrrry windy! But the winter light, the cold and wind made for some perfect cuddling and windswept photos, too.
We were supposed to do the entire session on the beach but, halfway through the session we took a break to warm up in our cars and when we went back out for the second part in Olivia and Chris’s second outfits, it had gotten soooo much windier! It made it really hard to shoot at that point so we made the impromptu decision to go to Congress Hall to wrap up the session. In the end, it turned out perfectly because Congress Hall was empty and made for a charming backdrop.
Chris and Olivia met while working on the midterm elections in Nashua, New Hampshire and went to Boston for their first date. Olivia remembers eating the biggest lobster they ever saw, ha! They now live in DC but Chris is from Cape May and this beautiful South Jersey location holds a special place in their hearts. Take a peek at some of my favorite images from their session below!
Windy Beach Engagement in Cape May
The Proposal
“Chris and I talk a lot about our future on a regular basis. Chris and I had talked about getting engaged and had planned a timeline for it due to our shared finances. Chris and I were still in law school and he asked if I could take the weekend to go “somewhere.” Our schedules were so booked between work and school that even that weekend we had to take the MPRE (ethics exam). We decided to go after the exam and into the workweek to Boston. When we went to dinner after arriving in Boston, I could see a square shape object bulging from Chris’s pocket. I knew it was coming!”
All about the ring
“I love the scallops on the band and the shape, it’s pear. I helped pick it out haha”
One thing they love about each other
“I love Chris’s perseverance and Chris loves my sense of humor.”
Thank you, Olivia and Chris, for allowing me to capture you in your favorite place and for sharing your story! Happy Wedding Planning!
